Telangana to Frame Strategic Approach on Data Centre Incentives and Land Allocation
Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has directed officials to undertake a comprehensive study of incentives being offered by various states for the establishment of data centres. Emphasizing the importance of balanced industrial growth, the Chief Minister instructed authorities to ensure rational land allocation policies for companies setting up data infrastructure projects in the state.
The review meeting was held at the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar State Secretariat, where discussions focused on proposals submitted by firms expressing interest in establishing data centres in Telangana. Officials briefed the Chief Minister on land requirements, infrastructure needs, and the status of ongoing land acquisition processes across different regions.
Balanced Land Allocation and Investor Facilitation
Revanth Reddy stressed that land allotment for data centres must be done with careful planning and justification. He noted that while companies invest thousands of crores in technology and infrastructure, the proportion of their investment on land remains comparatively small.
He emphasized that timely provision of land and basic infrastructure facilities would enable companies to complete projects swiftly and operationalize investments without delays. The Chief Minister underlined the need for administrative efficiency in facilitating high-value investments.
Fair Compensation to Farmers
The Chief Minister directed officials to adopt a generous and transparent approach in determining land compensation. He instructed them to engage directly with farmers, conduct consultations, and ensure that compensation packages leave landowners satisfied.
According to the Chief Minister, sustainable industrial development must go hand in hand with protecting the interests of farmers and local communities.
Senior Officials in Attendance
The review meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Ramakrishna Rao, Special Secretary to the Chief Minister Ajit Reddy, IT Department Principal Secretary Sanjay Kumar, Special Chief Secretary (Energy) Naveen Mittal, Future City Development Authority Commissioner Shashank, and other senior officials.
Conclusion
With increasing demand for digital infrastructure and cloud computing services, Telangana is positioning itself as a major hub for data centres. The Chief Minister’s directive to benchmark incentives, streamline land policies, and ensure fair compensation reflects a balanced strategy aimed at attracting investments while safeguarding stakeholder interests.
