AP Government Announces Major Welfare Benefits for Employees
The Andhra Pradesh government has announced a series of new welfare initiatives aimed at improving the work-life balance, health, and family support for government employees. The decisions were discussed during the Collectors’ Conference held in Amaravati, where officials outlined several employee-friendly policies.
The measures focus on encouraging family welfare, supporting women employees, improving healthcare access, and enhancing overall employee well-being.
Two Months Paternity Leave for Third Child
One of the key announcements is the introduction of two months of paternity leave for male government employees who have a third child. The initiative is being introduced on an experimental basis to address the issue of declining population growth rates in the state.
According to officials, the policy aims to encourage fathers to actively participate in childcare and strengthen parental involvement in early child development.
Support Measures for Women Employees
The government has also taken several steps to support working women in government offices. Offices that employ more than 50 women staff members will be required to establish child care centres to help working mothers manage childcare responsibilities.
In addition, the state plans to expand facilities such as pink toilets and She Cabs transportation services for women across Andhra Pradesh.
The government has also sanctioned ₹172 crore for the construction of 23 working women’s hostels across the state. Notably, three hostels will be built in Visakhapatnam.
Authorities aim to ensure that in the future there will be at least one working women’s hostel for every one lakh urban population.
Financial Incentives for Second Child
To encourage family growth and support young families, the government has decided to provide a financial incentive of ₹25,000 starting from the birth of the second child.
The initiative is part of broader efforts to address demographic trends and support families financially during the early years of child upbringing.
Subsidy for IVF Treatment
The government will also provide support to couples facing infertility challenges. Subsidies will be offered for IVF and other fertility treatments conducted in government hospitals.
This step is intended to help couples access fertility treatments at affordable costs and reduce the financial burden associated with such procedures.
Measures to Reduce Cesarean Deliveries
Health authorities are also focusing on reducing the high rate of cesarean deliveries in the state. Currently, the cesarean rate stands at about 67.5 percent.
The government has set a target to bring the rate down to below 40 percent by encouraging safer and more natural childbirth practices wherever possible.
Wellness Leave for Employees Near Retirement
In a move aimed at improving employee health, the government has introduced a new concept called “Wellness Leave.”
Under this initiative, employees who are within two years of retirement will be eligible for 15 days of wellness leave. Approximately 50,000 employees are expected to benefit from this program.
Along with the leave, employees will receive financial support of up to ₹50,000 for health check-ups and medical assessments.
Additional Healthcare Initiatives
Officials also highlighted broader health programs being implemented by the government, including:
- Sanjeevani – a comprehensive health insurance program for families
- Arogya Andhra Praja Vedika – a public health initiative conducted every fourth Saturday
Through these programs, the government aims to improve healthcare access and promote preventive health awareness among citizens.
Focus on Employee Welfare and Public Health
Overall, the new measures reflect the Andhra Pradesh government’s focus on strengthening employee welfare policies while addressing demographic and healthcare challenges.
By introducing family-friendly policies, expanding healthcare support, and improving workplace facilities, the state aims to create a more supportive environment for government employees and their families.
