CM Chandrababu Reviews Veligonda Works, Launches ₹456 Crore Feeder Canal Lining in Yerragondapalem
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu visited Yerragondapalem constituency in Markapuram district and laid the foundation stone for feeder canal lining works under the Veligonda Project. The works, estimated at ₹456 crore, were formally launched at Gantavanipalli in Dornala mandal.
The project aims to strengthen irrigation infrastructure and enhance water distribution efficiency in the region.
Foundation Ceremony and Field Inspection
During the visit, the Chief Minister inspected the feeder canal alignment and interacted with local farmers, including Ammireddy Venkateswara Reddy and Suravaram Gandiveera Reddy. He examined the project model and reviewed the scope of work with officials on site.
Officials briefed him on the technical aspects of the canal lining, expected timelines and measures being adopted to ensure quality and durability.
Review of Tunnel and Field-Level Works
Apart from the feeder canal works, the Chief Minister also reviewed progress on the Veligonda tunnel components. Through a video conference, he interacted with officials stationed at various work sites to assess real-time progress.
He directed departments to ensure coordination among engineering teams and to adhere strictly to timelines, noting that irrigation infrastructure plays a crucial role in stabilising agricultural productivity.
Importance of Canal Lining
Canal lining is designed to reduce seepage losses, improve water flow efficiency and ensure equitable distribution to tail-end areas. Officials indicated that the upgraded feeder canal would support improved irrigation coverage once operational.
The Veligonda Project has been positioned as a significant irrigation initiative intended to provide water to drought-prone mandals and strengthen regional agricultural sustainability.
Focus on Timely Completion
During the review meeting, the Chief Minister emphasised timely execution and regular monitoring. He instructed departments to maintain quality standards and provide periodic updates.
The visit concluded with an assessment of administrative preparedness and field-level coordination to ensure uninterrupted progress of ongoing works.
