CM Revanth Reddy Calls for National AI Council and Dedicated AI Ministry
Amid the rapid global transformation driven by Artificial Intelligence (AI), Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy proposed the formation of a National AI Council on the lines of the GST Council and NITI Aayog. He also suggested establishing a dedicated AI Ministry to frame legal safeguards ensuring that AI development does not compromise national security and strategic interests.
Delivering a keynote address at the India AI Impact Summit 2026 held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, the Chief Minister outlined an ambitious roadmap for India to emerge as a global leader in artificial intelligence.
Proposal for AI Startup Village & National AI War Room
The Chief Minister announced Telangana’s readiness to host an AI Startup Village with the support of the Government of India. He emphasized the need for continuous monitoring of AI advancements and proposed the establishment of a National AI War Room, jointly operated by the Centre and States.
If approved, Hyderabad could serve as the headquarters for this war room, enabling real-time coordination, policy alignment, and rapid response to technological developments.
AI as a Tool for Social Justice and Poverty Eradication
Inviting global technology leaders and innovators to collaborate with Telangana, the Chief Minister stressed that AI must be harnessed as a powerful instrument for social justice and poverty eradication. He advocated organizing AI summits twice a year in different cities across India instead of limiting discussions to annual events.
Highlighting the complete AI value chain—from GPU chip manufacturing and green energy to data storage and core language services—he said India must lead across all segments. For that, a clear national roadmap is essential.
Investment, Skilling & Platform Leadership
Calling for aggressive investments in AI, the Chief Minister underscored the importance of supporting startups and enabling Indian youth to build globally competitive unicorns. He emphasized comprehensive re-skilling strategies to ensure AI creates more opportunities instead of displacing jobs.
Drawing a contrast between traditional machines driven by physical labor and modern GPU-powered AI systems capable of analysis, decision-making, creation, and autonomous action, he described AI as a transformative technological leap, particularly in robotics.
India Must Move from Service Provider to Platform Creator
While acknowledging India’s strong position in the global services sector, the Chief Minister pointed out that the country has yet to emerge as a creator of globally dominant digital platforms. Widely used platforms such as search engines, social media networks, and video-sharing services were not built in India.
He warned that the global AI race is already underway and urged India to seize the moment through bold policies, institutional strength, and strategic investments. With the right approach, he asserted, India can move beyond a supporting role and establish itself as a global leader in artificial intelligence.
