Telangana to Launch 100 Public Schools This Year: AI Education, Breakfast Scheme and Infrastructure Overhaul Announced

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has directed officials to establish 100 Telangana Public Schools across constituencies outside Hyderabad city beginning this academic year. The schools are to be modeled on the Telangana Public School at Arutla in Manchal mandal of Rangareddy district, which offers comprehensive facilities including classrooms, playgrounds, teaching staff and transportation.

The announcement was made during a high-level review meeting on the Education Department held at the Command Control Centre. The Chief Minister emphasized that government schools in Telangana must become a benchmark for quality education and that financial constraints should not hinder infrastructure development.

Integrated Infrastructure on Corporate School Standards

Under the Core Urban Region Economy (CURE) framework, integrated government schools are to be constructed on par with reputed corporate institutions. The Chief Minister instructed that modern construction technologies be used and that 12 integrated new schools under CURE be completed within one year.

Facilities comparable to institutions such as Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan and Jubilee Hills Public School in Hyderabad are to be ensured in these integrated schools.

Additionally, 17 schools identified for upgradation and 164 schools slated for additional classrooms and facilities must be developed without compromise in quality standards.

AI Education from School Level

Recognizing the growing global relevance of Artificial Intelligence, the Chief Minister directed the Education Department to initiate AI instruction from the school level. Short-term training programs for teachers and lecturers are to be organized to ensure effective delivery of AI-related content.

Technical education curricula will also be updated to align with emerging technological demands. Polytechnic colleges and Advanced Training Centres (ATCs) are instructed to immediately introduce AI-based courses while phasing out outdated programs.

Breakfast and Milk for All Students from 2026-27

From the academic year 2026–2027, the government will implement a breakfast scheme in all government schools across the State. In addition to breakfast, each student will be provided milk sourced from Vijaya Dairy.

Officials have been directed to use technology to monitor nutritional standards, including calorie tracking for each student to ensure adequate dietary intake.

Student Welfare Kits from This Year

Beginning this year, students will receive comprehensive educational kits along with uniforms and textbooks. The kits will include school bags, pens, pencils, sharpeners, color pencils, geometry boxes, dictionaries, shoes and socks. Budgetary provisions are to be made accordingly.

University Funding and Higher Education Support

The Chief Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to strengthening higher education institutions. Following the allocation of ₹1000 crore to Osmania University, other universities have been asked to submit detailed reports outlining their funding requirements.

Fee Regulation for Private Schools

The Telangana Private Schools Fee Regulatory Monitoring Commission presented its report during the review meeting. The Chief Minister directed district-level inspections led by Collectors and District Education Officers to assess fee structures and submit recommendations.

A state-level final committee headed by a retired judge or retired Chief Secretary will take final decisions on fee regulation. A draft proposal will be placed in the public domain to gather feedback from parents, intellectuals and civil society representatives.

99-Day Public Program with Education Focus

As part of the government’s upcoming 99-day outreach program, one full week will be dedicated to education. Public representatives and officials will visit schools and colleges to assess infrastructure gaps and initiate corrective measures.

Employment-Oriented Technical Education

The Chief Minister emphasized that polytechnic and ATC graduates should receive employment opportunities immediately upon course completion. Industry linkage mechanisms are to be strengthened to ensure placement integration.

A Vision for Transforming Government Education

The government’s roadmap aims to transform public education infrastructure, integrate technology-driven learning, improve student nutrition, regulate private school fees and strengthen higher education institutions simultaneously.

If implemented as directed, the 100 Telangana Public Schools initiative, combined with AI integration and student welfare measures, could significantly reshape the State’s public education ecosystem over the coming years.
