Mamnoor Airport Warangal Proposed Development

Chief Minister of Telangana, A. Revanth Reddy, has strongly urged the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation to initiate the construction of the Mamnoor Airport near Warangal at the earliest and develop it in line with international standards. Highlighting that the land acquisition process for the airport has already been completed, the Chief Minister emphasized that there should be no further delay in commencing the long-pending project.

During his official visit to New Delhi, the Chief Minister met Union Civil Aviation Minister K. Ram Mohan Naidu at his chamber in Parliament. In the meeting, Revanth Reddy clearly conveyed Telangana’s expectations that Mamnoor Airport should not be limited to basic passenger operations, but should be developed as a comprehensive aviation hub with cargo services and Maintenance, Overhaul and Repair (MRO) facilities.

Strategic Importance of Mamnoor Airport

Explaining the strategic importance of the proposed airport, the Chief Minister pointed out that Warangal is Telangana’s second-largest city and is rapidly emerging as an industrial and economic centre, particularly in the textile and allied sectors. Improved air connectivity, he said, would significantly accelerate industrial growth, trade, and employment opportunities in the region.

Revanth Reddy also underlined the cultural and tourism significance of the Warangal region. He noted that the historic Sammakka–Saralamma Jatara, considered one of the largest tribal gatherings in Asia, is held once every two years at Medaram near Warangal, attracting crores of devotees. An operational airport in close proximity would greatly ease travel for pilgrims and tourists from across the country.

Regional Connectivity and Coverage

The Chief Minister stated that Mamnoor Airport would serve not only the undivided Warangal district but also act as a key aviation hub for the erstwhile districts of Khammam, Nalgonda and Karimnagar. Given the geographical spread and population of these regions, the airport would play a crucial role in enhancing regional connectivity and reducing dependency on Hyderabad airport.

He urged the Centre to grant all necessary approvals without delay so that flight operations from Mamnoor can begin as early as possible. The Telangana government, he assured, is fully prepared to cooperate at every stage of the project.

Additional Land and Central Support

Reiterating the state’s commitment, Revanth Reddy informed the Union Minister that the Telangana government is ready to provide an additional 249.82 acres of land if required for the airport’s expansion and allied infrastructure. He stressed that the state views Mamnoor Airport as a long-term investment in regional development rather than just a transport facility.

In response, Union Civil Aviation Minister K. Ram Mohan Naidu assured the Chief Minister that officials from the Airports Authority of India (AAI) would be deputed to Mamnoor soon to assess the site and take forward the necessary procedural steps for the commencement of works.

Leaders and Officials Present

The meeting was attended by Members of Parliament Anil Kumar Yadav, Dr. Mallu Ravi, Suresh Shetkhar, Ramasahayam Raghuram Reddy, Dr. Kadiyam Kavya, Gaddam Vamsikrishna, along with senior officials. The discussions reflected a coordinated push from both the state and central leadership to fast-track the Mamnoor Airport project.

With land acquisition completed and political momentum building, the Mamnoor Airport is now seen as a critical infrastructure project that could transform Warangal and surrounding districts into a major growth corridor in Telangana.
