Story
Komal (Vishwak Sen) is a filmmaker directing a movie titled Funky. As production delays and rising costs begin to spiral out of control, the producer’s health deteriorates. Taking charge of the situation, his daughter Chitra (Kayadu Lohar) steps in and decides to replace Komal to complete the remaining shoot.
What follows is a clash of egos, creative chaos, and a series of comedic situations revolving around whether Komal can reclaim control of his film. This forms the basic narrative thread of Funky.
The official trailer of Funky introduces Vishwak Sen in a refreshingly quirky avatar under the direction of Anudeep KV. Packed with fast-paced humor, meta-style comedy, and energetic visuals, the trailer offers a glimpse into a film that leans heavily on situational fun and witty dialogue.
Kayadu Lohar plays the female lead, while the trailer hints at a chaotic behind-the-scenes narrative set within the world of filmmaking. With vibrant visuals and punch-heavy moments, Funky positions itself as a light-hearted entertainer.
Funky – Official Trailer
Performances
Vishwak Sen surprises by stepping away from his usual intense and mass-oriented roles. He embraces a lighter, quirky character and delivers several witty one-liners with ease. His effort is sincere, and his comic timing works in parts, though stronger writing could have elevated his performance further.
Kayadu Lohar looks confident and charming as the producer’s daughter. Her screen presence is appealing, and her chemistry with Vishwak Sen feels natural. Supporting actors like Naresh and VTV Ganesh contribute occasional laughs but remain underutilized.
What Works
The film benefits from its short runtime, which prevents it from becoming exhausting. A handful of jokes and situational moments land effectively, especially when Vishwak Sen is allowed to play off his eccentric personality. Visually, the film maintains a colorful and lively tone throughout.
What Doesn’t
The biggest drawback of Funky is its lack of narrative cohesion. The film feels like a series of loosely connected skits rather than a structured story. Scenes appear random, with no strong conflict or emotional anchor to keep the audience invested.
Unlike Jathi Rathnalu, where absurdity was supported by narrative momentum, Funky struggles to find direction. The emotional turn in the final act feels forced and fails to leave an impact. Songs are forgettable, and dubbing issues are noticeable in several scenes.
Technical Aspects
Bheems Ceciroleo’s music is one of the weaker aspects, with songs failing to enhance the narrative. Suresh Sarangam’s cinematography is pleasant and maintains a vibrant visual palette. Editing by Navin Nooli feels choppy, though the fragmented nature of the screenplay limits how much it could have helped.
Director Anudeep KV focuses heavily on punch dialogues but neglects structured comedy blocks. The overdependence on one-liners ultimately works against the film.
Verdict
Funky is an experimental comedy that delivers occasional laughs but lacks the storytelling strength needed to leave a lasting impression. Vishwak Sen and Kayadu Lohar put in commendable performances, yet inconsistent writing and weak screenplay prevent the film from reaching its full potential.
While the film may appeal to audiences looking for light, logic-free humor, it falls short of expectations set by the director’s earlier work.
Final Verdict: A mildly entertaining but uneven comedy.
