Birth and Death Registration Now Mandatory Within 21 Days in Andhra Pradesh
The Government of Andhra Pradesh has implemented new regulations making the registration of births and deaths mandatory within 21 days from the date of occurrence. The revised rules come into immediate effect and aim to strengthen the state’s civil registration system.
Mandatory 21-Day Registration Rule
As per the updated guidelines, every birth and death occurring within the state must be registered within 21 days. Authorities have clarified that timely registration is essential to ensure accurate public records and avoid legal complications in the future.
Penalty for Delayed Registration
The government has introduced penalty provisions for delayed registration:
- 21–30 days: A fine of ₹25 will be imposed.
- After 30 days up to 1 year: A fine of ₹250 will be charged.
Citizens are strongly advised not to delay the process to avoid penalties and additional documentation requirements.
Name Registration Provision
In cases where a newborn’s name is not immediately registered, parents are allowed to update the child’s name within 12 months free of cost. After this period, additional formalities may apply.
Why Timely Registration Matters
Birth and death certificates are essential documents required for school admissions, passport applications, government welfare schemes, inheritance claims, insurance settlements, and other legal processes.
Officials emphasized that maintaining accurate demographic records helps in better planning of public services, healthcare, and welfare programs.
Government Advisory
The Andhra Pradesh government has urged citizens to complete the registration process promptly through authorized municipal offices, gram panchayats, or online portals wherever available.
Authorities reiterated that compliance with the 21-day rule will help avoid penalties and ensure smooth access to essential services in the future.
