Andhra Pradesh leadership held a series of high-level meetings in New Delhi with key Union Ministers, focusing on strengthening farmer welfare, improving railway infrastructure, and advancing the state’s ambitious urban and environmental initiatives.
Focus on Farmers and Natural Farming Initiatives
During a meeting with Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, detailed discussions were held on safeguarding the interests of Andhra Pradesh’s Annadatas (farmers).
The state leadership briefed the minister on the progress achieved in natural farming practices and highlighted the untapped potential of the Kolleru Lake region for makhana cultivation. Seeking central incentives and policy support, the proposal aims to diversify farmer incomes while promoting sustainable agriculture.
Special emphasis was also laid on the challenges faced by coconut and mango farmers, with a request for targeted central assistance to strengthen price stability, market access, and long-term income security.
Strengthening Railway Connectivity Across Andhra Pradesh
In a separate meeting, Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw was briefed on the need to further enhance railway connectivity across various regions of Andhra Pradesh.
Discussions focused on improving passenger convenience, expanding freight corridors, and accelerating pending rail infrastructure projects that are crucial for economic growth and regional integration. The state underscored the importance of railways in boosting trade, tourism, and employment opportunities.
The meeting reflected Andhra Pradesh’s push to position rail connectivity as a backbone for balanced development across coastal, Rayalaseema, and northern districts.
Swachh Andhra and the Vision for a Zero Landfill State
The Andhra Pradesh delegation also met Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar to discuss the state’s flagship Swachh Andhra initiative.
The talks centred on Andhra Pradesh’s ambitious goal of becoming India’s first Zero Landfill State, with a focus on sustainable waste management, recycling, and circular economy practices. The state sought stronger Centre–State collaboration to implement long-term environmental solutions across urban and rural areas.
Officials stressed that sustained central support would be vital in achieving lasting environmental outcomes, while also setting a national benchmark in urban cleanliness and ecological responsibility.
Coordinated Push for Inclusive Development
The series of meetings underscored Andhra Pradesh’s coordinated approach toward inclusive development—linking farmer welfare, infrastructure growth, and environmental sustainability. By engaging closely with the Union Government, the state aims to accelerate progress across multiple sectors while aligning with national priorities.
