Telangana Cabinet Approves 2.5 Lakh Indiramma Houses | Major Welfare and Development Decisions Announced
The Telangana Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has taken several major welfare and development decisions, including the approval of 2.5 lakh Indiramma houses under the second phase of the housing scheme. The meeting held at the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Telangana State Secretariat focused on housing, education, infrastructure, life sciences, irrigation, and employment generation.
The cabinet decisions are being seen as part of the government’s broader strategy to strengthen welfare delivery while simultaneously attracting investments and improving long-term infrastructure across Telangana.
2.5 Lakh Indiramma Houses Approved
One of the biggest decisions taken during the cabinet meeting was the approval of 2.5 lakh houses under the second phase of the Indiramma Housing Scheme. The government decided to allocate 2,000 houses for each Assembly constituency across the state.
The official launch of the second phase will be conducted on June 1 at Sirpur Kagaznagar in Asifabad district, where Chief Minister Revanth Reddy will formally distribute sanction documents to beneficiaries.
Special Housing Plan for Hyderabad Core Urban Region
The Cabinet also approved the construction of 1 lakh additional Indiramma houses within the Hyderabad Core Urban Area covering 24 Assembly constituencies.
Unlike rural areas where beneficiaries may already own land, many poor and middle-class families in Hyderabad lack house sites. Keeping this reality in mind, the government decided to identify suitable land parcels within existing residential areas and construct houses closer to where beneficiaries currently reside.
The move is expected to reduce displacement concerns and help families maintain access to employment opportunities and local social networks.
Focus on Families Living in Hutments
According to various surveys conducted by the government, nearly 15,000 families in Telangana are currently living in temporary hutments and unsafe housing conditions.
The Cabinet resolved to provide Indiramma housing sanction documents to these families on priority basis, aiming to improve living standards and provide permanent shelter to economically weaker sections.
Midday Meals for Junior College Students
In a significant step for the education sector, the Telangana Cabinet approved the implementation of a midday meal scheme in government junior colleges starting from the upcoming academic year.
The initiative is expected to benefit thousands of intermediate students, particularly those from economically weaker backgrounds who often struggle with nutrition and food security while pursuing higher secondary education.
The government believes the scheme will help improve attendance, reduce dropout rates, and support better academic performance among students.
Rs 1000 Crore Allocated for Godavari Pushkaralu 2027
The Cabinet sanctioned Rs 1000 crore for infrastructure and arrangements related to the prestigious Godavari Pushkaralu 2027.
The funds will be used for development works, pilgrim facilities, sanitation, transportation, and riverfront infrastructure across important pilgrimage centers associated with the Pushkaralu festival.
Approval for RDSS Power Infrastructure Development
Telangana DISCOMs received Cabinet approval to join the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) being implemented by the Central Government.
The proposal focuses on strengthening electricity distribution infrastructure, improving operational efficiency, reducing transmission losses, and upgrading power systems across the state.
Funds for Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Project
The Cabinet allocated Rs 587 crore for land acquisition, rehabilitation, and infrastructure development linked to the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme.
The irrigation project is considered one of Telangana’s major long-term water infrastructure initiatives aimed at supporting agriculture and improving water availability in drought-prone regions.
Restructuring of State Cooperative Institutions
The government also decided to merge all district-level DCMS units into MARKFED. Additionally, the Rural Infrastructure Corporation will be merged into HAKA as part of administrative restructuring measures aimed at improving operational efficiency.
Next Generation Life Sciences Policy 2026-30
One of the most strategically important decisions taken by the Cabinet was the approval of the Next Generation Life Sciences Policy 2026-30.
The government aims to transform Telangana into one of the world’s top five life sciences hubs by 2030. The policy was earlier announced formally by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy during the Davos visit.
The policy targets attracting nearly 25 billion dollars in investments and generating around 5 lakh jobs over the next five years.
Focus on Innovation, R&D and Digital Health
The new policy expands beyond traditional pharmaceutical manufacturing and places strong emphasis on innovation-driven sectors including:
- Biotechnology
- Medical innovation
- Research and Development (R&D)
- Digital Health
- Global Innovation Services
- Advanced Manufacturing
The Cabinet also decided to officially recognize R&D and innovation units as industries, which could significantly boost investment inflows and startup activity in Telangana’s life sciences ecosystem.
Employment Opportunities for Youth
The government stated that the policy is designed to create large-scale employment opportunities for Telangana youth in research, healthcare technology, biotech manufacturing, and innovation sectors.
Hyderabad already has a strong presence in pharma and biotechnology industries, and the new policy aims to strengthen the city’s position as a globally competitive life sciences destination.
Conclusion
The latest Telangana Cabinet decisions reflect a dual strategy focused on both welfare expansion and long-term economic development. From large-scale housing schemes and student welfare initiatives to infrastructure development and life sciences investments, the government is attempting to position Telangana as a welfare-oriented yet investment-friendly state.
The implementation of these decisions over the coming months will play a crucial role in determining their impact on housing, employment, education, and economic growth across Telangana.
