Telangana Government Departments Directed to Use Only Electric Vehicles

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has directed all government departments in the state to purchase only electric vehicles (EVs) in the future. The decision is part of the government’s broader strategy to promote a pollution-free transportation system and reduce carbon emissions across the state.

The Chief Minister emphasized that transitioning to electric mobility is essential for improving urban air quality and building an environmentally sustainable transport ecosystem.

EVs Mandatory for Government Departments

According to the new directive, all government departments operating within the Core Urban Area must ensure that any vehicles purchased for official purposes are electric vehicles.

The Chief Minister further instructed that even vehicles hired on a rental basis by government departments should also be electric vehicles. This step is expected to significantly increase EV adoption in public sector transportation.

Transport Department to Go Fully Digital

During a review meeting on transport department activities, the Chief Minister also instructed officials to completely eliminate manual processes within the department.

He directed that all services and administrative operations should be shifted to online digital platforms in order to improve efficiency, transparency, and accessibility for the public.

The review meeting was attended by Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar along with senior officials from the department.

Plans for New RTO Office Buildings

The Chief Minister also reviewed the functioning of Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) across the state. He noted that many RTO offices are currently operating from rented buildings, which is not ideal for long-term administrative operations.

Officials were instructed to immediately prepare plans for constructing permanent government-owned buildings for RTO offices wherever necessary.

The construction of dedicated facilities is expected to improve service delivery and create better infrastructure for transport-related services.

Road Safety Awareness Campaigns

The Chief Minister also highlighted the importance of road safety awareness to reduce accidents. He suggested using short films and public awareness campaigns to educate citizens about safe driving practices.

Such awareness programs are expected to play an important role in improving road discipline and reducing the number of traffic accidents across the state.

Modern Bus Terminal Near Shamshabad

In another major infrastructure initiative, the Chief Minister announced plans to allocate land for the construction of a modern bus terminal near Shamshabad.

The proposed terminal will be developed near the location where a high-speed rail corridor is expected to begin in the future. Officials have been asked to prepare detailed plans for the development of this facility.

The project is expected to strengthen regional connectivity and provide improved transport infrastructure for passengers traveling to and from Hyderabad.

Moving Towards Sustainable Transport

The Telangana government’s push for electric vehicles is part of a larger effort to transition towards cleaner transportation systems. By mandating EV usage in government departments, the state aims to lead by example in promoting environmentally responsible mobility.

Combined with digital reforms in the transport department and improved infrastructure development, these initiatives are expected to modernize the state’s transportation ecosystem in the coming years.
