Telangana Government Plans Life Insurance and Health Security for 1.15 Crore Families

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy announced that the state government is exploring a major initiative to provide life insurance and health security coverage to nearly 1.15 crore families across the state. The announcement was made during the inauguration of the newly constructed Medicover Hospital in the Financial District area of Kokapet, Hyderabad.

The hospital was inaugurated by the Chief Minister along with Minister Damodar Raja Narasimha. The event was attended by several political leaders, senior government officials, and medical professionals.

Focus on Education, Healthcare and Agriculture

During his address, the Chief Minister emphasized that the Telangana government has taken up education, healthcare, and agriculture as key sectors under a new development mission. According to him, ensuring quality education and accessible healthcare for the poor can solve nearly 90 percent of the problems faced by families.

Revanth Reddy explained that the government is seriously considering the implementation of life insurance and health protection programs that would provide financial and medical security to a large section of the population.

Digital Health Cards for Women Self-Help Groups

Highlighting women’s health issues, the Chief Minister said that women often face significant healthcare challenges. To address this, the government has started the process of issuing digital health cards to approximately 65 lakh women members of self-help groups across the state.

The initiative aims to ensure better access to healthcare services and enable easier medical record management for beneficiaries.

₹1,800 Crore Spent on Healthcare Support

Revanth Reddy also revealed that the government has spent around ₹1,800 crore over the past two years for medical treatment of poor patients through programs such as Rajiv Aarogyasri and the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF).

He further stated that the government is investing heavily in strengthening healthcare infrastructure. Around ₹10,000 crore is being spent on developing hospitals such as:

  • Osmania Hospital
  • Warangal TIMS
  • Alwal TIMS
  • LB Nagar TIMS
  • Sanath Nagar TIMS
  • NIMS Hospital

These projects are expected to collectively add around 10,000 hospital beds to the state’s healthcare capacity.

Education Reforms and New School Policy

The Chief Minister also discussed major reforms being introduced in the education sector. While education has reached even remote areas, he noted that quality education remains a major concern.

To address this, the government is planning a new model called Telangana Public Schools, which will provide integrated education from nursery to Class 12. Currently, the system separates schooling and intermediate education after Class 10.

Under the new system, the government aims to create a seamless schooling structure that improves both academic learning and skill development.

Improved Student Welfare Measures

The government is also introducing additional support for students. According to the Chief Minister, schools will provide:

  • Quality breakfast for students in the morning
  • Nutritious midday meals
  • Transportation facilities similar to corporate schools

The transport facility may be provided either free of cost or at 50 percent subsidy, especially in the Core Urban Region from the upcoming academic year.

Skill Development and Employment Challenges

Revanth Reddy highlighted concerns about employability among engineering graduates. Every year, nearly 1.10 lakh engineering graduates pass out from colleges in Telangana, but many lack the necessary skills to compete globally.

He pointed out that while artificial intelligence may affect certain white-collar jobs, it is unlikely to replace blue-collar skill-based jobs.

To address the skills gap, the government has established the Young India Skills University and partnered with Tata Consultancy Services to convert old ITI institutions into advanced training centers.

In the next phase, the government plans to bring polytechnic colleges under the same modern skill development framework.

Corporate Doctors Asked to Serve in Government Hospitals

The Chief Minister also made an appeal to doctors working in corporate hospitals. He suggested that as part of their social responsibility, doctors should spend at least one month every year providing medical services in government hospitals for poor patients.

The government is planning to create a platform that will allow corporate doctors and even medical professionals working abroad to contribute their services to public healthcare.

Healthcare Requires Compassion

Revanth Reddy stressed that medicine should not be treated as a mechanical profession. According to him, doctors must approach patients with humanity and empathy, especially when treating economically weaker sections.

He stated that the behaviour and communication of doctors in hospitals can solve nearly half of the problems faced by patients and their families.

25th Medicover Hospital in India

Expressing satisfaction over the inauguration, the Chief Minister said it was encouraging to see the 25th Medicover Hospital in India being launched in Hyderabad. He hoped the hospital would continue to expand and provide quality healthcare services to patients.

The event was attended by Rajya Sabha MP Vem Narender Reddy, MLAs Kunduru Jaiveer Reddy and Naveen Yadav, Medicover Hospital Chairman and Managing Director Anil Krishna, Executive Directors Dr. Sharath Reddy and Dr. Harikrishna, Hyderabad City Police Commissioner Sajjanar, along with several doctors and dignitaries.
