International Women’s Day: Andhra Pradesh Government Highlights Commitment to Women’s Empowerment
On the occasion of International Women’s Day, greetings were extended to women across Telugu households, including daughters, mothers, and women from every walk of life. The day was marked by highlighting the progress made toward strengthening women’s rights, opportunities, and social empowerment.
The journey of women’s empowerment has evolved significantly over the years. Beginning with the landmark step of granting equal property rights to daughters, the movement has gradually expanded into initiatives that encourage women to become entrepreneurs, professionals, and leaders in various sectors.
Government Schemes Focused on Women’s Welfare
The Andhra Pradesh government has introduced several welfare schemes aimed at improving the economic and social status of women. These programs focus on financial security, mobility, entrepreneurship, and social welfare.
Among the major initiatives are the “Talli Ki Vandanam” scheme, free RTC bus travel under the Stree Shakti program, the Deepam-2 free LPG cylinder scheme, and the NTR Bharosa pension scheme for widows. These measures are designed to ensure that women receive direct support for their daily needs and long-term stability.
Employment Opportunities for Women
Employment generation has also been a major focus area. Through the Mega DSC recruitment drive, the government has provided teaching jobs to 7,955 women, while 993 women have been recruited as police constables.
In addition, gratuity benefits are being implemented for Anganwadi workers and ASHA staff, recognizing their crucial role in providing health and welfare services at the grassroots level.
Promoting Women Entrepreneurship
The government has also set an ambitious target of creating five lakh women entrepreneurs across the state. As part of this initiative, nearly one lakh women have already been trained and supported to establish micro and MSME-based businesses.
These efforts aim to provide women with sustainable income opportunities and encourage them to participate actively in the state’s economic development.
Focus on Women’s Health and Safety
Ensuring the health and safety of women has also been prioritized. In collaboration with the central government, the state has launched a free vaccination program to protect women against cervical cancer, aiming to improve long-term health outcomes.
Such initiatives highlight the government’s commitment to strengthening healthcare access for women and addressing major health concerns through preventive programs.
Commitment to Equality and Progress
The government reaffirmed its commitment to implementing programs that promote women’s welfare, safety, dignity, and freedom. These initiatives are designed to create an environment where women can pursue education, employment, entrepreneurship, and leadership opportunities without barriers.
As the state continues to expand its women-focused welfare programs, citizens are encouraged to actively participate and support efforts aimed at achieving greater gender equality and social progress.
On this occasion, warm wishes were once again extended to women across society, acknowledging their contributions to families, communities, and the overall development of the nation.
