Census in Andhra Pradesh to be Conducted in Two Phases

As part of the nationwide census exercise, the enumeration process in Andhra Pradesh will be conducted in two major phases. The exercise aims to collect comprehensive data about households, population characteristics, and socio-economic conditions across the state.

Officials stated that the upcoming census will incorporate digital technology extensively to ensure accurate and efficient data collection.

Phase One: House Listing and Housing Census

The first phase of the census will involve house listing and housing census. This stage is scheduled to take place from May 1 to May 30.

During this period, enumerators will collect detailed information about residential buildings and households. The exercise will include the preparation of a comprehensive list of houses and an assessment of housing conditions.

Officials will also gather information about household facilities and assets using digital mapping tools to ensure accurate geographical identification of each residence.

Phase Two: Population Enumeration

The second phase will focus on population enumeration, which is expected to begin in February 2027. In this stage, enumerators will record demographic information about individuals living in each household.

The census will capture detailed data related to age, gender, occupation, migration patterns, and other socio-economic indicators that help policymakers understand the demographic structure of the country.

Self-Enumeration Facility

For the first time, citizens will also have the option of self-enumeration. Between April 16 and April 30, individuals can submit their details independently through a dedicated public web portal.

This option is designed to make the census process more convenient and efficient, particularly for people who prefer to enter their data online.

Fully Digital Census Process

A major highlight of the upcoming census is its fully digital approach. Authorities plan to use mobile applications and specialized web platforms to record and manage the collected data.

Digital technology will help streamline the data collection process, reduce errors, and enable faster analysis of the information gathered from millions of households.

Offline Option for Remote Areas

Despite the emphasis on digital tools, provisions have also been made for offline data collection in areas where internet connectivity may be limited or unavailable.

Field enumerators will be able to collect information manually and later upload the data to the digital system once connectivity becomes available.

Comprehensive Socio-Economic Data Collection

The census will gather detailed information about each household’s social, economic, and cultural conditions. It will also record data related to migration patterns, family composition, and other demographic factors.

Officials stated that these details will help governments design policies and welfare programs more effectively.

Ensuring Accurate Household Data

During a meeting with the Chief Minister, senior official J. Nivas explained that steps are being taken to ensure accurate documentation of the status and conditions of every household.

The goal of the census exercise is to create a reliable database that reflects the real socio-economic conditions of families across the state and the country.
