Quick Response Prevents Major Explosion at Raipur Fuel Station

A potentially catastrophic fire incident was narrowly avoided at a petrol pump in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, after a man allegedly ignited a fuel nozzle in anger on Thursday evening. The incident occurred at the Sangeeta Petrol Pump located in the Urla area of the city.

What Happened at the Petrol Pump?

According to police officials, the accused, identified as Dharmendra Kshatri, had arrived at the petrol station with his friend Imran to refuel his motorcycle. While the vehicle was being filled with petrol, Kshatri reportedly lit a cigarette despite warnings from the pump attendants about strict safety regulations prohibiting smoking within the premises.

When confronted by staff members, the situation escalated. In a fit of rage, Kshatri allegedly ignited the fuel nozzle, triggering a sudden burst of flames near the dispensing unit.

Staff Prevent Major Disaster

The quick thinking and swift response of the petrol pump employees played a critical role in preventing what could have turned into a devastating explosion. Attendants immediately shut off the fuel supply and used fire extinguishers to control the flames before they could spread to underground storage tanks or nearby vehicles.

The fire was brought under control within minutes, averting serious injuries and property damage. Authorities confirmed that no major casualties occurred, though Kshatri sustained minor burn injuries during the incident.

Police Action and Arrest

Following the incident, police launched an investigation using CCTV footage from the petrol pump premises. Based on surveillance visuals and motorcycle registration details, both Kshatri and Imran were traced and arrested on Friday.

Police have registered a case against the accused under sections related to arson, endangering public safety, and reckless conduct. Officials stated that further legal proceedings are underway.

Serious Safety Concerns

The incident has once again raised serious concerns about public awareness regarding fire hazards at fuel stations. Petrol pumps strictly prohibit smoking due to the highly flammable nature of petrol vapours, which can ignite instantly and cause explosions.

Authorities have urged citizens to strictly follow safety instructions at fuel stations and cooperate with staff to prevent similar dangerous incidents in the future.

Conclusion

Thanks to the rapid response of petrol pump staff, a major tragedy was avoided in Raipur’s Urla area. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of adhering to safety norms at high-risk locations such as fuel stations.
