Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has urged Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to undertake the Krishna–Vikarabad railway line entirely with central government funding. The Chief Minister reiterated that the Telangana government is prepared to bear the complete cost of land acquisition required for the project.
During his visit to New Delhi, Revanth Reddy met Ashwini Vaishnaw at his chamber in Parliament, where he highlighted the strategic importance of the Krishna–Vikarabad rail corridor for Telangana’s industrial and economic growth. He recalled that the state government has already conveyed its commitment to handle land acquisition expenses to ensure faster execution of the project.
Industrial Growth Along Krishna–Vikarabad Corridor
The Chief Minister informed the Railway Minister that limestone reserves have been identified at Tekalkode along the proposed railway route. He explained that the state government is working towards developing the region as a hub for cement and textile industries, which would significantly benefit from improved rail connectivity.
Revanth Reddy pointed out that the Krishna region lies close to several major cement manufacturing units in Karnataka and is also near his own Kodangal Assembly constituency. He said that Kodangal, Tekalkode and Daulatabad are being developed as industrial zones, making the Krishna–Vikarabad rail line crucial for freight and passenger movement.
Proposal for High-Speed Rail Corridors
The Chief Minister also proposed the development of three major high-speed rail corridors—Hyderabad–Chennai (778 km), Hyderabad–Bengaluru (586 km) and Hyderabad–Pune (556 km). He informed the Union Minister that the Telangana government is ready to allocate around 500 acres of land near the Shamshabad International Airport to support these projects.
Revanth Reddy suggested that all three high-speed rail corridors should originate from Shamshabad Airport, transforming it into a major rail and transport hub. He said that if the Hyderabad–Bengaluru and Hyderabad–Pune corridors begin from Shamshabad, the location would emerge as a strategic tri-junction for high-speed rail connectivity.
Connectivity to Amaravati and Bandar Port
The Chief Minister noted that the proposed Hyderabad–Chennai high-speed corridor would pass through Amaravati and requested the Railway Minister to sanction a rail line from Amaravati to Bandar Port. This, he said, would significantly enhance cargo movement from the proposed dry port near Hyderabad to the seaport.
By improving rail-based freight connectivity between inland logistics hubs and coastal ports, Telangana could strengthen its position as a key industrial and export-oriented state, he added.
Positive Response from Railway Ministry
Revanth Reddy requested that land acquisition for the three high-speed rail corridors be initiated immediately so that construction work could begin without delay. Responding positively, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw assured that the proposals would be taken forward and that work would commence in a phased manner.
Members of Parliament Anil Kumar Yadav, Dr. Mallu Ravi, Suresh Shetkhar, Ramasahayam Raghuram Reddy, Dr. Kadiyam Kavya and Gaddam Vamsi Krishna, along with senior officials, were present during the meeting.
The discussions underline Telangana’s push to position Hyderabad and its surrounding regions as a major rail, logistics and industrial hub, supported by enhanced central-state coordination on large-scale infrastructure projects.
