Hyderabad to Lead India’s Net-Zero Urban Transformation Under CURE Model

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy announced that the Telangana Core Urban Region (CURE) will be developed into a pollution-free, green, net-zero services hub, setting a national benchmark in sustainable urban development. Hyderabad is set to become the first Indian city to undertake a comprehensive Carbon Footprint Audit.

Address at Mumbai Climate Week

Speaking at the “Mumbai Climate Week” summit held at the Jio Convention Centre, the Chief Minister shared Telangana’s long-term sustainability roadmap. The event was attended by NITI Aayog Vice Chairman Suman Bery and several global climate policy leaders.

The Chief Minister emphasized that within the next five years, no polluting industries will operate within the CURE region. The government aims to align economic growth with climate responsibility through structured urban planning and green energy integration.

Telangana Rising 2047 Vision

Under the Telangana Rising 2047 vision, the state plans to increase its GDP from $200 billion to $1 trillion by 2034 and further to $3 trillion by 2047. Sustainable growth pillars will include economic expansion, environmental protection, education, skills, resources, and employment.

CURE, PURE, and RARE Zones Explained

The Chief Minister detailed the strategic zoning framework:

  • CURE (Core Urban Region Economy): Area within the 160 km Outer Ring Road around Hyderabad.
  • PURE (Peri Urban Region Economy): Region between the Outer Ring Road (ORR) and Regional Ring Road (RRR).
  • RARE Zone: Focused on rural and agricultural economic development.

The PURE region is being positioned as one of India’s largest manufacturing hubs, aiming to establish Telangana as a strong “China +1” alternative in global supply chains. The government clarified that this manufacturing expansion will be powered primarily by green energy.

Telangana Green Energy Vision

Green Energy and Power Demand Projections

With the state targeting a $1 trillion economy by 2034, electricity demand is projected to reach 34,000 MW. Currently, approximately 25% of Telangana’s energy mix already comes from green energy sources.

The Chief Minister noted that global investors, especially data centers and high-tech industries, increasingly demand renewable energy-backed infrastructure. Telangana aims to meet this demand while balancing economic growth with environmental sustainability.

Infrastructure Expansion Plans

The 360-kilometer Regional Ring Road project is under progress, and plans for a Regional Ring Railway network are advancing. These infrastructure upgrades are expected to support sustainable industrial and urban expansion while reducing congestion and emissions.

Global Investment Appeal

Revanth Reddy invited global investors to partner in Telangana’s green transformation journey. He stressed the importance of balancing economy, environment, education, skills, energy, employment, and entrepreneurship to position Telangana as a model state for climate-resilient development.

The Chief Minister expressed confidence that Hyderabad’s sustainability roadmap could gain international recognition similar to global economic forums, reinforcing the city’s emergence as a green urban innovation leader.
