As part of the ambitious Musi River Rejuvenation Project, Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has invited Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to attend the foundation stone-laying ceremony of the proposed Gandhi Sarovar project. The project is being planned at the confluence of the Esa and Musi rivers and is envisioned as a world-class educational, cultural, spiritual and environmental centre.
During his visit to New Delhi, the Chief Minister met Rajnath Singh at his office in South Block, where he briefed the Union Minister on the objectives and long-term vision of the Musi rejuvenation initiative. Revanth Reddy explained that the project is being undertaken with a strong focus on sustainable urban development, ecological restoration and ensuring the continuous flow of clean water in the Musi River.
Gandhi Sarovar at Historic Bapu Ghat
The Chief Minister informed the Defence Minister that the Gandhi Sarovar project will be developed near Bapu Ghat, the historic site where the ashes of Mahatma Gandhi were immersed in 1948 at the Esa–Musi river confluence. He said the project would serve as a living tribute to Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals and legacy.
According to Revanth Reddy, the design and concept of Gandhi Sarovar will reflect Gandhian values such as peace, unity, sustainability and a simple way of life. The project aims to blend environmental conservation with cultural and spiritual learning, making it a landmark destination of national and international importance.
World-Class Cultural and Environmental Hub
The Chief Minister outlined that Gandhi Sarovar will be developed as a global centre for education, culture, spirituality and environmental awareness. Key components of the project will include a Peace Symbol, a National Museum dedicated to Gandhian philosophy, a Knowledge and Learning Centre, and a Handloom Promotion Centre to support traditional artisans.
He emphasized that the project would not only honour Mahatma Gandhi’s vision but also contribute to sustainable tourism, public education and ecological balance along the Musi River corridor.
Invitation for Foundation Ceremony
Revanth Reddy formally requested Rajnath Singh to attend the foundation stone-laying and Bhoomi Puja ceremony of the Gandhi Sarovar project, which is scheduled to be held by the end of February. He expressed hope that the Union Minister’s presence would add national significance to the initiative.
Members of Parliament Anil Kumar Yadav, Dr. Mallu Ravi, Suresh Shetkhar, Dr. Kadiyam Kavya and Gaddam Vamsi Krishna accompanied the Chief Minister during the meeting.
The Gandhi Sarovar project is expected to become a key pillar of the Musi River rejuvenation effort, symbolising Telangana’s commitment to environmental restoration, cultural preservation and sustainable urban development.
