Farmers Raised the Issue, Road Completed in 90 Days: Rural Connectivity Boost in Koyyalagudem
Farmers in Eluru district’s Koyyalagudem mandal have received improved road connectivity following the completion of a 3-kilometre donka road between Errampeta and Rajavaram villages. The project was executed under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) and completed within three months.
Officials stated that the new road is expected to benefit nearly 12,500 residents in the surrounding villages, easing long-standing transportation challenges.
Improved Access to Agricultural Lands
For years, farmers in the region faced difficulties accessing their agricultural fields due to the absence of a proper road. Transporting harvested crops to storage points and markets was particularly challenging during adverse weather conditions.
With the completion of the donka road, farmers can now travel more efficiently to their fields and move produce without significant delays. Local residents say the improved connectivity will reduce travel time and vehicle damage caused by uneven terrain.
Project Timeline and Funding
The road construction was sanctioned in two packages under MGNREGS with an allocation of approximately ₹60 lakh. District authorities initiated the work following public representations during a field visit in November last year.
Construction activities began soon after administrative approval and were completed within the targeted three-month period. Officials noted that timely coordination between departments helped accelerate execution.
Community Representation Leads to Action
Residents of Errampeta and Rajavaram had earlier submitted a petition highlighting the lack of road access and the hardships faced in reaching agricultural lands. The issue was raised during a local interaction meeting, where villagers explained the practical challenges caused by the absence of motorable access.
Following the representation, district authorities were directed to examine feasibility and initiate works under available rural development schemes.
