₹600 Crore Land Acquisition Push for Devadula: CM Sets June 2 Deadline, Calls for Swift Repairs
Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has announced that ₹600 crore will be sanctioned by June 2 for land acquisition under the J. Chokka Rao Devadula Lift Irrigation Scheme (JCRDLIS) in Mulugu district. The Chief Minister directed officials to place all financial estimates before the government and secure approvals during the ongoing Budget session of the Legislative Assembly.
The announcement was made after the Chief Minister inspected the Devadula pump house and held a review meeting with ministers and senior officials to assess project progress and pending works.
One-Month Deadline for Pump Repairs
During the review, the Chief Minister instructed officials to complete ongoing repair works of the Devadula pumps within one month. He emphasized that infrastructure restoration must be expedited to ensure uninterrupted functioning of the lift irrigation system.
He further stated that all pending estimates related to the project would be presented before the Cabinet in March for formal approval, signaling an accelerated decision-making process.
Special Meeting During Assembly Session
The Chief Minister announced that a special meeting would be convened in the Committee Hall during the Assembly session to discuss the Devadula Lift Irrigation Scheme in detail. The meeting is expected to involve public representatives and concerned officials to address issues related to implementation, funding, and timelines.
The move is seen as an effort to ensure transparency and coordination among stakeholders while expediting project execution.
Dedicated Corpus Fund for Land Acquisition
In a significant policy announcement, the Chief Minister stated that the Telangana government would establish a dedicated corpus fund for land acquisition across all irrigation projects in the state. The fund aims to streamline compensation payments and reduce delays in project execution caused by land acquisition hurdles.
He clarified that compensation to landowners would be processed through a “green channel,” ensuring faster fund disbursal. According to the Chief Minister, delays in land acquisition should not become a reason for stalled project works.
Focus on Timely Implementation
The Devadula Lift Irrigation Scheme is one of the major irrigation initiatives intended to enhance water availability in upland regions. By prioritizing land acquisition funding and pump maintenance, the state government aims to improve operational efficiency and accelerate project completion.
Officials have been instructed to ensure that procedural formalities are completed promptly, particularly those related to cost estimates and administrative approvals.
Administrative Coordination Emphasized
The review meeting underscored the importance of coordination between departments responsible for irrigation, finance, and revenue. The Chief Minister directed that all relevant data and documentation be finalized before being placed before the Cabinet.
He reiterated that infrastructure projects must proceed without procedural bottlenecks, especially when public welfare and irrigation benefits are involved.
Looking Ahead
With the June 2 deadline set for sanctioning ₹600 crore towards land acquisition, the coming months will be crucial for the progress of JCRDLIS. The state government’s commitment to establishing a corpus fund and expediting approvals indicates a renewed push toward timely completion of irrigation infrastructure.
As discussions continue during the Assembly session and Cabinet deliberations, stakeholders will closely monitor how swiftly the directives translate into on-ground execution.
