Telangana Govt Announces ₹1.2 Crore Accident Insurance & Cashless Health Scheme for Employees

In a significant boost for state government employees and pensioners, the Telangana Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy approved two major welfare schemes aimed at providing financial security and healthcare protection. The decisions were taken during a Cabinet meeting held at the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Telangana State Secretariat.

₹1.2 Crore Accident Insurance Without Premium

The Cabinet approved a comprehensive accident insurance scheme for government employees and pensioners. Notably, beneficiaries will not be required to pay any premium under this scheme.

  • ₹1.2 crore compensation in case of accidental death
  • ₹10 lakh term insurance benefit for natural death up to 60 years
  • Applicable to 5.19 lakh regular employees and 2.38 lakh pensioners
  • Total beneficiaries: 7.57 lakh

The scheme, which was earlier implemented in select public sector undertakings such as Singareni and Transco, has now been extended to all state government employees and pensioners.

Cashless Employee Health Scheme (EHS) Approved

Responding to long-standing demands for enhanced medical security, the Cabinet approved the Cashless Employee Health Scheme (EHS). The scheme will provide cashless treatment in government and empanelled private hospitals.

  • 3.56 lakh regular employees
  • 2.88 lakh pensioners
  • Total beneficiaries including dependents: 17.07 lakh
  • Coverage across 652 empanelled private hospitals
  • 1,998 medical procedures covered

Each beneficiary will receive a digital health card issued through the Rajiv Aarogyasri Health Care Trust. Employees will contribute 1.5% of their basic pay, with the government matching the same contribution. The annual estimated budget for the scheme stands at ₹1,056 crore, shared equally between employees and the state.

Healthcare Structural Reform

The Cabinet also decided to convert the Telangana Vaidya Vidhana Parishad (TVVP) into a Directorate of Secondary Health Care (DSH) to strengthen hospital management. A special committee under Health Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha will study new policy frameworks for hospital administration.

Key Infrastructure and Development Approvals

Several major infrastructure and institutional decisions were also cleared:

  • Four villages added to HMDA limits
  • Metro Phase-1 to be taken over from L&T; Phase-2 to be expanded as a joint venture
  • 223.09 acres allocated for logistics and food processing parks in Koheda
  • 239 acres earmarked for a world-class fruit market
  • Land allocation for engineering colleges in Mahabubabad and Siddipet districts
  • 21 Young India Integrated Residential Schools approved across multiple districts
  • Land exchange with Defence Department for elevated corridor works
  • Greenfield mini stadium in Bhadrachalam approved
  • Land allocated for TTD temple in Khammam and Anjaneya Swamy temple in Karimnagar district

Clean & Green Energy Push

As part of the Clean and Green Energy policy, renewable energy distribution licenses will be issued to data centers consuming 300 MW of power, aligning with the state’s sustainability goals.

Comprehensive Welfare & Development Package

The Cabinet decisions reflect a combined focus on employee welfare, healthcare reforms, urban expansion, education infrastructure, and industrial growth. Ministers Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy, Adluri Lakshman Kumar, and Vakiti Srihari briefed the media on the decisions taken.

With expanded insurance coverage and cashless healthcare now approved, government employees and pensioners are set to receive enhanced financial and medical protection under the new policy framework.
