CBI Chargesheet Clears Tirumala Laddu of Animal Fat, Uncovers Large-Scale Synthetic Ghee Scam

CBI chargesheet confirms Tirumala laddu prasadam did not contain animal fat, while uncovering a large-scale synthetic ghee supply scam involving TTD.
CBI Chargesheet on Tirumala Laddu Ghee Case

A final chargesheet filed by a Central Bureau of Investigation-led team has confirmed that the Tirumala laddu prasadam did not contain any animal fat or lard, putting to rest widespread concerns raised over the purity of the sacred offering. Laboratory analysis of samples collected from suppliers linked to the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams found no traces of animal-derived substances.

However, the investigation has revealed a separate and serious issue — the alleged supply of synthetic ghee falsely marketed as pure cow ghee over several years, exposing what investigators describe as a large-scale financial and procurement scam.

Findings of the Chargesheet

According to the chargesheet submitted this month, laboratory tests conducted during the probe confirmed that none of the samples contained animal fat. This finding directly contradicts earlier speculation and public fears regarding contamination of the prasadam with prohibited substances.

Investigators stated that while animal fat was ruled out, the ghee supplied was allegedly not genuine cow ghee in several instances.

Alleged Synthetic Ghee Racket

The chargesheet details an alleged multi-year racket involving the supply of synthetic ghee prepared using vegetable oils, chemical additives, and artificial coloring agents such as palm oil derivatives and beta-carotene. This product was allegedly passed off as pure cow ghee and supplied for use in laddu preparation.

The alleged operation is said to have continued for nearly five years, with investigators estimating the total value of the racket at approximately ₹7,250 crore. The chargesheet notes that procurement processes and quality checks were allegedly manipulated to facilitate the supply.

Period Under Investigation

The investigation focuses largely on the period from 2021 onwards, during which the alleged irregularities are said to have intensified. The chargesheet does not attribute guilt but outlines the timeline and transactions under scrutiny.

Officials involved in procurement, inspection, and approval processes are among those named in the case.

Accused Named in the Case

The chargesheet lists 36 accused individuals, including officials associated with Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams and directors of dairy and supply firms. The accused face charges related to cheating, criminal conspiracy, and violation of procurement norms.

The case will now proceed through judicial scrutiny, where evidence and statements recorded during the investigation will be examined.

Political and Public Reactions

The findings have triggered strong political reactions. The YSR Congress Party has demanded public apologies from leaders of the Telugu Desam Party, alleging that false narratives harmed public sentiment and religious faith.

Meanwhile, devotees and religious observers have expressed concern over governance and oversight in matters related to sacred offerings, even as the confirmation that no animal fat was used has brought some reassurance.

Impact on Devotees

The Tirumala laddu holds deep spiritual significance for millions of devotees. While the confirmation regarding the absence of animal fat has addressed core religious concerns, questions remain about procurement integrity and quality assurance mechanisms.

Religious and administrative authorities have stated that maintaining transparency and trust is essential to preserving the sanctity of prasadam distribution.

What Happens Next

With the filing of the chargesheet, the matter now moves to the judicial stage. Courts will determine the course of proceedings based on evidence presented by the investigating agency.

Officials have emphasized that all accused are presumed innocent until proven guilty and that the legal process will decide responsibility and accountability.
