Well-known Indian actor Prakash Raj appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) today in Hyderabad in connection with an ongoing investigation into the alleged promotion of illegal online betting applications. The actor was summoned after receiving a notice from officials nearly ten days ago.
According to ED officials, the investigation focuses on celebrities and influencers who are suspected to have endorsed betting platforms operating without proper authorization. The agency is examining whether such promotions may have indirectly supported platforms involved in unregulated or unlawful activities.
The case has gained national attention as multiple First Information Reports (FIRs) have been filed across key locations including Panjagutta, Miyapur, Cyberabad, Suryapet, and Visakhapatnam. Based on the evidence collected so far, the ED has reportedly issued summons to several public figures from the film and entertainment industry.
Alongside Prakash Raj, other notable personalities including Vijay Deverakonda, Rana Daggubati, and Lakshmi Manchu are also under scrutiny. These individuals are scheduled to appear before the ED in the coming weeks for questioning. The agency aims to record statements, examine promotional materials, and review financial transactions related to the endorsement of these betting apps.
Prakash Raj, during his appearance, is understood to have cooperated with investigators and responded to questions regarding his association with the concerned digital platforms. It is believed that the actor clarified his stance and provided necessary documentation to support his claims.
The ED is currently analyzing whether funds received through such endorsements are connected to any violations under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). Authorities are also investigating the advertising agreements and revenue structures associated with the digital campaigns run by these betting companies.
This case has raised significant concerns about the role of public figures in promoting online platforms, especially those linked to financial risk or grey areas of digital legality. The incident has reignited debates around responsible endorsements, digital advertising ethics, and the need for stronger regulatory oversight in the online gaming and betting space.
As the investigation progresses, more details are expected to emerge in the coming weeks. The ED’s actions mark a growing effort to address the influence of unregulated platforms in the digital economy and the accountability of those who lend their image to such ventures.
