Khammam, Telangana: In a significant development for the irrigation and infrastructure sectors in Khammam district, Agriculture Minister Thummala Nageswara Rao has issued crucial directives concerning the Manchukonda Lift Irrigation Project. Participating in a video conference held by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, Minister Thummala discussed various welfare and development initiatives in the district with senior state officials. A particular focus was placed on expediting irrigation and urban improvement projects.
The minister emphasized that all tanks in the Raghunathapalem Mandal should be filled through the Manchukonda Lift Irrigation system. To ensure uninterrupted power supply, he directed NPDC Chairman and Managing Director Varun Reddy to initiate immediate tenders for the construction of a substation near the project site.
Thummala also addressed a major bottleneck in infrastructure by instructing TRANSCO Director Lata Vinod to take urgent steps to relocate a high-tension line near Kodumuru village along the Devarapalli Greenfield Highway.
Further integrating urban and agricultural needs, the minister directed that pipelines be laid from the Kodumuru Lift Irrigation Project to Velugumatla Urban Park, ensuring a continuous water supply for the park. This task is to be coordinated by irrigation and forest department officials.
On the urban front, Thummala emphasized the need to expand roads in key parts of Khammam city to enhance aesthetics and connectivity. He also assured that those displaced due to these expansions, particularly in areas like the Khammam agricultural market, would be provided with both house sites and newly constructed homes. He ordered the district administration to ensure full compensation to affected families, ensuring no poor household is left behind
